ART 180 teens reimagine the historic neighborhood
ART 180 is pleased to announce a new exhibition celebrating our neighborhood, historic Jackson Ward. Teen artists have reimagined the area under the guidance of artists/architects Hamilton Glass and David Marion Green. The exhibition includes drawings, elevations, perspectives, collage, and a scale model of the redesigned neighborhood.
ART 180 will host an opening reception for the Our Jackson Ward exhibition on Friday, April 4, from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Teen artists from our music and hip hop dance programs will perform their original work at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. during the reception. The show will be at Atlas, ART 180’s art center for teens, through April. Please call for appointments.
Atlas houses a variety of art-based programs for teens living in challenging circumstances emphasizing personal and community change through creative expression and civic engagement, as well as an exhibition and performance space for art created by young people.
“Since we opened our doors last year, local artists have led programs encouraging Richmond teens to express themselves through a variety of creative media including spoken word, fashion design, dance, music, theater and many forms of visual art,” said Atlas Program Manager Michael Guedri. “This is just the beginning.”
Atlas also serves as a community gathering space, and offers many opportunities for teens throughout Richmond to meet other young people and engage with caring adults.

ABOUT ART 180
ART 180 gives young people in challenging circumstances the chance to express themselves through art, and to share their stories with others. Since 1998, the nonprofit organization has worked with youth in the Richmond area to create art that explains and illustrates their feelings, thoughts, and experiences. Partnering with other organizations that serve young people, ART 180 designs projects that allow for self-expression, and creates venues for this expression in the community. The name reflects their vision of turning lives and communities around 180 degrees. ART 180 also operates Atlas, an art center for teens and gallery space for young people in Jackson Ward.
