RVA Parents Forum Series Tackles the Tough Issues

1402_RealMom_HParenting has always been difficult and according to the recent report Culture of American Families (2012), a whopping 83 percent of parents find parenting to be more challenging today than in previous generations. Where can parents turn for effective strategies and tested tools to guide them through the maze of difficulties they face in today’s modern world?

Commonwealth Parenting, celebrating its thirtieth anniversary and new partnership with the Children’s Museum of Richmond, presents a six-part RVA Parents Forum Series tackling the toughest issues confronting parents today.

“The Forum series will address the issues that have parents in a constant state of worry and anxiety,” said Liz Pearce, director of parent engagement at The Children’s Museum of Richmond. “So many parents feel isolated and don’t know how to talk to their kids about uncomfortable subjects. We believe it’s never too soon or too late to start the conversation.”

Parenting experts and family educators will tackle topics ranging from bullying, alcohol, and sex to divorce, technology and stress. Parents will learn how to identify potential problems and will leave feeling empowered with commonsense solutions and answers.

“We’re excited about bringing this much-needed Forum series to parents in central Virginia. Through our valuable partnership with Commonwealth Parenting, we can have a deeper impact in the community through parent and caregiver education,” said Karen Coltrane, president and CEO of the Children’s Museum of Richmond.

The RVA Parents Forum Series:
The second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Children’s Museum of Richmond’s Short Pump location, 2200 Old Brick Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060. The six-part series kicks off October 14, 2014 and will run through April 14, 2015. Cost is $30 per class/$150 for the series and includes dinner, class, parenting experts, and interactive Q&A. Babysitting is available, reservations required. Please call 804-545-1272.
