Summer Season Is Lice Season

Locally owned The Nit Fairies Lice Removal Service has a few tips for avoiding Head Lice this summer.

It’s that time of year again! School will be letting out and your kids will be headed off to summer camp in the peak season for head lice. Tight quarters in camp settings and more head to head contact during overnight stays can be the culprit of your child becoming infested with these pesky critters. Below are some tips to help prevent your family from going through a psychological meltdown.  Lice are not known to spread diseases but they are highly contagious. Through the years lice are mutating and becoming immune to all the over the counter pesticide treatments, however, our treatment is all-natural and 100 percent effective in eradicating all infestations. Our highly trained and professional technicians are on call 7 days a week to give free lice advice and treat your family in the privacy of your own home or camp.  Some local camps have taken precautionary measures by hiring us to screen incoming campers to prevent those infested with head lice from bringing it into their camp. Here are a few tips to help prevent head lice from ruining your summer.

–        Girls with longer hair should wear their hair in a tight bun, braid or at least a ponytail. Dangling hair allows for easy access into your child’s hair.

–        Application of gel, mouse or hairspray is also recommended. Lice have a hard time getting in and around on sticky hair shafts.

–        Weekly head checks in the hot spots are always a good idea. Look in the crown of the hair, behind the ears and the nape of the neck. Especially after spending time away at camp or sleepovers.

–        When going to camp or a friend’s house for a sleepover always bring your own pillow, sleeping bag and hairbrush.

–        Speak to your child about sharing personal items such as hairbrushes, combs, helmets, bows, clips, hats, towels and clothing.

–        Lice can’t jump or fly but are most often passed from head to head contact.

–        Be sure to break the cycle by removing every single nit. If one is missed the infestation could continue.

–        Although itching is very typical in those with lice not everyone reacts to their saliva so some children may not even scratch.

–        If you are inexperienced in dealing with lice, overwhelmed or just can’t get rid of your child’s infestation on your own then you may want to hire a professional lice removal service. Make sure they offer a 100 percent guarantee.

–        Head lice are very tiny and can be hard to spot by an untrained eye.  The adult louse is the size of a sesame seed and a nit is the size of a comma in a magazine. Diagnosing you child could be a hard task and most infestations are not found until 2-6 weeks after catching lice.
